Our history

JV Wine and Spirits’ story begins with the opening of the first Vallerga’s Market grocery store in 1947 on First Street near Silverado Trail. This was long before Napa Valley grew into the internationally acclaimed wine region that it is today. When local demand for quality wines increased, Vallerga’s opened a chain of corner wine and spirits stores called ‘Val’s.”   The warehouse for both stores, including cases of wines and spirits, was situated locally in Napa. Trying something new, Vallerga’s decided to open the warehouse to the public, allowing customers to peruse and purchase wines and spirits from the stacked cases of merchandise.  The concept was an instant hit, and JV Beverage Warehouse, now JV Wine & Spirits, was born.
